Buyer protection rules
With buyer protection the buyer's money is held until the item arrives as described.
The buyer pays on ORTHYNE through Stripe the price plus a protection fee of 5% + €0.70.
The money is held by Stripe and is not passed to the seller straight away.
For shipping, the seller ships with tracking within 7 days of payment and enters the carrier and tracking number. For in-person delivery, the seller marks the handover within the same period.
When the buyer confirms receipt, the seller receives the full price, but never earlier than 72 hours after payment (7 days for sellers with fewer than 3 completed sales).
For items shipped with tracking, if the buyer reports no issue, the payment goes to the seller 14 days after shipping. For in-person delivery the buyer's confirmation is required: without a confirmation or a report, ORTHYNE staff decide.
If the item does not arrive or is significantly different from the description, the buyer uses “Report an issue” in “My orders” before that deadline: the money stays held and ORTHYNE staff decide on a refund or payment within 7 days, based on the evidence (photos, tracking and the listing description saved at the time of purchase).
If the seller does not ship or hand over the item within 7 days of payment, the buyer automatically receives a full refund.
When an order is refunded because the item did not arrive or does not match the description, the buyer gets back the full amount paid, protection fee included.
If the buyer disputes the payment with their bank (chargeback), the money stays on hold while the dispute is open and the bank decides the outcome: if the bank sides with the buyer, the order is closed as refunded and, if the seller had already been paid, the amount is taken back from the seller.
A private seller does not act as a business: consumer rights, such as the right of withdrawal, do not apply to sales between private individuals. A business or professional seller must respect consumer rights (for example the 14-day right of withdrawal in the EU and the legal guarantee): the automatic payment after 14 days does not remove them.
Card, identity and bank details are handled only by Stripe; ORTHYNE does not see them.
Items that are illegal, counterfeit or stolen are not allowed.
